Open Forum with the AGOYO Board: Career Development
808 Howell St
July 6 @ 10:00 am Open forum with the AGOYO board, led by Jillian GardnerIt has been said that there are as many ways to make a career in music as there are career musicians. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of career development. Rather, there are myriad strategies for growing and advancing a career in music and each person must find the methods which are most effective for them. This workshop discussion, led by an age-diverse panel from the AGO Young Organists board, will offer strategies that have been helpful in developing the burgeoning careers of young performers, church musicians, and scholars. Attendees will leave this workshop with a plethora of ideas for establishing and expanding their professional footprint and with the determination to implement them in their own professional endeavors.
The Year of the Young Organist: Inspiring Growth.
808 Howell St
July 7 @ 9:00 am This workshop will survey the lessons we learned from the Year of the Young Organist. It will address the impetus for creating the program and its key components, how it was marketed and promoted, and the quantifiable outcomes of the program. We will provide an assessment of what worked and what didn't, including the webinar series and the status of the organ scholar program. We will scrutinize the membership numbers and report our findings. Did we have a net gain of young organists as a result of the program? If so, how many? From what parts of the country? What were the percentages of new members by gender? What other demographic and useful information have we discovered about AGO Young Organists? We will conclude with recommendations for the next steps.
