Telling the Story with Music: A Musician’s Guide to the Narrative Lectionary
July 6, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 9:45 am
Come discover fresh insights on planning worship and music, centered around the compelling stories in the Bible. In this session, a brief introduction to the narrative lectionary will be used as a springboard for sharing thematic considerations, planning strategies and congregation-tested musical examples that bring faith narratives to life. The narrative lectionary began in 2010, designed by two professors from Luther Seminary, Rolf Jacobson and Craig Koester. Since that time, many congregations from different denominations have organized their worship life around this four-year model. Presenters will discuss and demonstrate “what’s new and fresh” in this alternative lectionary, how to maintain a New Testament lens while focusing on Old Testament stories, and how to involve the congregation and choir with inspiring hymns and anthems.
