Concert – Alcee Chriss – Plymouth UCC – Fisk Organ

Music by Bach, Franck, Florentz, Reger, and the world premiere performance of Carol Barnett’s “Summer 2020” for horn and organ.
Ms. Barnett took inspiration from names and phrases that were in the news during the tumultuous summer of 2020, turning these into scale degrees and musical motives which then appear throughout the composition. She also drew inspiration from the multiple contrapuntal forms one finds in organ literature, employing those and manipulating them in creative ways.
