Injury Prevention in Practice and Daily Life
July 7, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 11:45 am
Any physical activity performed or posture held for extended periods of time has the potential to lead to discomfort and even injury. Practicing at the organ bench is no different – especially if much of the rest of the day is also spent in a similar posture at a computer workstation. Concert artist Katelyn Emerson and Susan Emerson, Occupational/Hand Therapist and Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist propose practice techniques that encourage the release of tension while playing as well as stretches and exercises that can help to reset the body after and during hours spent at the musical and computer keyboards. Posture suggestions that encourage optimal positioning and prevent muscle fatigue will be included, as well as methods of motivational encouragement to incorporate these suggestions into practice and daily living, promoting lifelong healthy habits. Attendees are welcome to bring questions!
